It was stunning to hear from Takamori sensei that every single thing on this earth is here to clarify the reason why we were born. All human endeavors such as politics, business, science, medicine, law, ethics, morals and so on exist for us to know the purpose of life.
It is said that “human life is heavier than the heaviness of all things.” But politics cannot fulfill our needs. Instead, nuclear weapons produced by modern science are now threatening our very existence. Doctors can not give a clear answer as to why it is necessary to extend our lives and also lawyers are not sure why we should not take someoneʼs life. This is all because we do not know why we were born and why we live. It is such a tragedy. It has made me aware how vital it is for Shinran followers to be out in the flagging world and teach people the purpose of life.
