2 People Take Doctrine Exam
Two Shinran followers came to the 2,000-tatami-mat hall from one of the areas affected by the earthquake. Both of them took the Daidoshi exam (doctrinal exam) which took place on the evening of that day. Satoru Michihata, an employee of a phamaceutical company, experienced an earthquake with an intensity of 6 on March 11 in Morioka City, Iwate prefecture. It was his first brush with terror when he saw all his belongings from the shelves falling down. Ai Noguchi, a female student, felt a strong shock of the earthquake when she was at her condominium in Sendai city, Miyagi prefecture. Most of her furniture was damaged, but she protected Seigohonzon from damage by embracing it as she took refuge under the table.
Whole areas in both Morioka City, and Sendai City were without electricity, and they did not know that a big tidal waves had hit the northeast region until the next day. “I thought I knew well about the impermanence of life, but I was wrong. I would like to listen to Buddhism seriously when seeing how an entire town was instantly ruined by a tsunami. I would like to put more importance on listening to Buddhism at every session,” said Michihata. And, Noguchi looks for an environment suitable for listening to Buddhism, and as a result stays at her Buddhist friend’s home in Osaka.
