A Scale that Permeates through the Three Worlds and the Ten Directions

The self is what we want to know the most, yet it is the thing that we understand the least. This is why we worry so much about others’ evaluations of us and try to get to know ourselves through self-reflection. However, the image of ourselves reflected in the ‘mirror of others’ and the ‘mirror of the self’ is not our true image. This is what I learned.

In Buddhism, it is taught that the ‘Truth’ is only something that runs through the Three Worlds and the Ten Directions. The image of oneself that runs through the Three Worlds and the Ten Directions is one’s true image. I am lost for words at this enormous scale.

In bookshops you’ll find many books on self-analysis and understanding the self, and I’ve read various books of this sort. The results I get from using these to analyse myself, however, differ with each book. It’d be unthinkable to say these results run through the three worlds and the ten directions. Now I really see that you cannot get to know your true self using these books.

In order to get closer to the mirror of Truth, “listening to Buddhism is of utmost importance.” I will diligently listen to Buddhism until the point when I am made aware of my true self in an ichinen and I am granted absolute happiness.
