Now is the Time to Show My Appreciation
Deep Gratitude for The 2000-Tatami Mat Hall Isao Takeshima (71), Toyama prefecture
“I am very grateful to learn about the teachings of Master Shinran from Takamori-sensei.” Takeshima met true Buddhism, the only teachings that say we can achieve the ultimate purpose of life while still alive, at the age of 28. To think about Takamori- sensei devoting his entire life to teaching Buddhism “makes me cry inside,” Takeshima said, expressing how grateful he is for the 2000-Tatami Mat Hall.
“Our house is over 40 years old and it is cold in winter and hot in summer, so it is not very comfortable. We started thinking about building a new one, but then I thought, ‘Wait a minute, I was not born to build a house! Even Hideyoshi Toyotomi, who had built Osaka Castle, said of his life, ‘It was all a dream,’ and had to cry when he died. How many times have we heard these well-known words of Hideyoshi?’ I made up my mind to use everything I have for the 2000-Tatami- Mat Hall, where the teachings of Master Shinran are conveyed.” Takeshima reflected on himself and said “All I have are desires, so how come I feel this way towards the 2000-Mat Hall? I am very thankful.”
Master Shinran teaches: “To meet with a true master is difficult above all else.” “It will be impossible to be reborn as a human being again and meet with a true master of Buddhism; this will be my last chance. I must follow the teaching of the true master: believe in Amida Buddha and follow him alone.”
