The Castles of the Six-Character Name, Where the Orthodox Teachings are Taught
The combined event for the 55th anniversary of Jodo Shinshu Shinrankai, and the congregation to repay our debt of gratitude to Master Shinran (Ho’onko), was held at the 2,000-Tatami-Mat Hall on October 12 and 13. Dharma castles of the Six-Character Name are appearing one after another all over Japan. Many ‘Shin Buddhist refugees’ got together in the 2,000-Tatami-Mat Hall in order to listen to Buddhism. This is a special feature article on this topic. The correct object of reverence as taught by Master Shinran is the six Chinese characters of “The Name” (Myogo). The place where Shinran Followers gather to listen to Buddhism should naturally have “The Name” as the correct object of reverence. The reason for this is that Shinran Followers follow the teachings of Master Shinran, who placed “The Name” as the object of reverence all throughout his life. This object of reverence, Namu Amida Butsu, which is placed in each Shinran Center, is the evidence that all those centers are preaching the orthodox teachings of Master Shinran.
